Director for Single Gender Initiatives

Responsible for facilitating the development of single gender programs across the state of South Carolina, including:  training teachers, advising program creation, facilitating implementation, hosting informational sessions for faculty, parents, and community members, maintaining a network of people interested in or doing single gender education.

 

TWO Academies at Dent Middle School, Columbia, South Carolina                           2004-2007

Lead Teacher, Single-Gender Magnet Program (Grades 6-8)

Responsible for administering a single-gender magnet program for boys.  Oversee development and implementation of curriculum.  Responsible for selection of students and public relations with community and parents.

 

 Summit Parkway Middle School, Columbia, South Carolina                                        1999-2004

Teacher, Social Studies (Grade 6)

Taught ancient world history to six sections of sixth grade students.  Served as unit leader within an interdisciplinary team.  Taught in traditional and block schedules.  Developed and implemented a year-long standards-based project where students “created” their own civilizations.  Received grants to support research in student achievement and project/problem-based learning.  Awarded South Carolina Middle School Social Studies Teacher of the Year 2002.
